Protector

Her name was derived from “protector,”
In Greek it meant keeper of home;
But death turned her into deflector
And left both her children alone.

The damage kept quietly crawling;
She shuttered the windows by day,
And just like her roof, skies were falling
And left her in wordless dismay.

And yet she built soup like a structure,
As if it were sturdier clay;
Drones circled around just like vultures—
And one stole her soul as its prey.
