И Шуман песни написал на них -
И обе в душу сильно мне запали,
В них ре минор горит.

И боль, и страсть до самого прозренья,
До самой полоумной глубины!
Где старый музыкант влюблен в невесту,
И вот на свадьбе с ней с другим стоит.

И в звуках нерастраченная мука,
Какой-то необычный запредел.
Солдат же - застрелил своего друга,
В приказ к нему явившись на расстрел!

У всех дрожали руки, всех стрелявших,
Но в сердце он без промаха попал
Того, кого ценил необычайно -
И больше всех любил - и друг упал!

Everyone's hands were trembling, when they fired,
But he hit his friend's heart without a miss -
Of the one whom he loved most and most valued -
loved more than anyone - and his friend fell!
