I live alone beside the lake
The forest breathes, silence wakes
The dogs are lazy, cats are kind
The war is far, the peace is mine
I fish for pike, I chop the wood
I live the life I knew I would
No more savanna, no more steel
Just smell of pines and life fulfill
Once early morning engines roar
Kids from the city, spoiled and bored
They point their fingers at my door
"You’ve got one day — then you’re no more"
They didn’t know the man they faced
The ghost of wars they never traced
The last stand happens by the lake
One trigger pull, one rule to break
No mercy left, no prayer done
The old wolf makes them deadly calm
I wait until the morning comes
I clean the steel, I load the drums
The camouflage, the boots, the stance
The hunter takes his final chance
They roll in laughing, full of beer
They see me standing, they don’t fear
The sun is high, the lake noise near
The last thing they will ever hear
The first burst cuts them where they stand
The second sends the burning brand
Grenades on metal, screams in air
The rest is silence — and repair
They didn’t know the man they faced
The ghost of wars they never traced
The last stand happens by the lake
One trigger pull, one rule to break
No mercy left, no prayer done
The old wolf makes them deadly calm
The pit is dug, the fuel's poured
The bodies burn without a Lord
The jeeps go down, the lake is still
The forest watches hunter's will
The dogs come back, the cats return
The fire cools, the lesson’s learned
The sun still rises on the lake
And I am home — for heaven’s sake
The last stand’s done, the peace is deep
The only promise I could keep
