How Are You, Dad

I built a home, tore my hands, until the tears stopped flowing.
Created a paradise inside, breathed love into life.
You were my guiding light, my will to try.
Now I just speak to the stars in the sky.

And I still wait for you there by the door,
Where your laughter always brightly rang.
And every night I whisper soft and low:
Come home, don't leave me all alone.
Just silence echoes  back in empty home

You're grown up now, and I've grown wise.
I saw your dream and watched you chase the sky.
I was your wings, I never stood in your way.
But you flew away and never called my name.

And I still wait for you there by the door,
Where you'd come running to me before.
The pain inside may fade away,
But my love for you will always stay.

I'm so alone, afraid to face the day.
I just need one moment from you today,
To hear your voice, from afar to you
How are you, Dad?
How are you?

Only the wind carries dreams to the sky.
And here I stand, singing to you tonight.
Faded, old, wounded to the core.
Not for fame, not for reward.
Just to call you.
Just hold you once more.

Still waiting, I, At the door...
For you…
Only the wind carries to the sky.
How are you, Dad?
How are you, Dad?
How are you, Dad?
Why?
