Return

I’m coming back so soon,
To a city I once knew,
But you won’t be there waiting—
You’re no longer in its view.

I’ll step off the train tonight,
To the platform cloaked in night,
And the rain-soaked wind will greet me
From the shadows of my life.

I remember that same wind,
It was with me that evening,
As I left this place behind,
Believing it was forever.
It chased my speeding train,
Through the clouds, through the rain,
As if it knew I’d return
To find the past again.

I don’t know where you are,
I’m just tracing old stars,
Like when we wandered freely
Till the streetlights lit the dark.

There’s the quiet pond we knew,
By the house we walked into,
Where we fed the swans together,
And the world felt soft and true.

I remember that same wind,
It was with me that evening,
As I left this place behind,
Believing it was forever.
It chased my speeding train,
Through the clouds, through the rain,
As if it knew I’d return
To find the past again.

Was it real, or a dream?
The stars, the love, the gleam?
This city feels like fiction,
A story lost between.
Perhaps I only fell
For a vision, cast a spell,
On a magical old city,
And on you, as well.

I remember that same wind,
It was with me that evening,
As I left this place behind,
Believing it was forever.
It chased my speeding train,
Through the clouds, through the rain,
As if it knew I’d return
To find the past again.

I’m coming back so soon,
To a city I once knew,
But you won’t be there waiting—
You’re no longer in its view.
