For the fallen son

We crawled through trenches where the earth was rot
A line of brothers that the world forgot
They gave us orders wrapped in golden thread
And we believed the lies we were fed
Then came the day the sky turned black
The ones we trusted never looked back
A blade came down where faith had stood
And painted innocence with blood
I saw a figure with a broken wing
The brightest soul that ever would sing
He fell among us, silent and vast
A monument to glories past

Hope may be dead, but the fight remains
We carry the fire through ashes and flames
For the fallen son, for the sacred vow
Victory shall be ours now

They made us heroes in a war we never chose
Marching through the mud, burying the ones we know
I heard the order that split the sky
A whispered name, a quiet lie
We are the sons of blood, the heirs of grief
We hold the line without relief
We held the line with rusted steel
Trying to remember what was real
Then came the shadow with a hollow crown
And tore the last cathedral down
The one with feathers still haunts my dreams
A final scream above the screams
We left him there in the foreign rain
And swore we’d never be the same

Hope may be dead, but the fight remains
We carry the fire through ashes and flames
For the fallen son, for the sacred vow
Victory shall be ours now

The thirst for blood, the visions we drown
Every day we press them down
(silence)
