Teide s Crown Eclipse
the mountain high,
I chased the dark,
across the sky,
with only wind and valley far below.
I saw the earth,
from heights above,
a silent world,
I came to love,-
with distant fire sleeping far below.
To reach the crown of Teide’s head,
You climb where jagged stones are spread,
I see the darkened crown eclipse,
With dust and silence on your lips.
The slope is thorned, the climb is steep,
It cuts the bone, it wakes the deep.
But those who reach that height up there
Find sudden stillness in the air.
This magnificence is vast and true,
But only part of the journey through.
I reached the peak,
my breathing stilled,
I felt my chest,
with wonder filled,
with all my scars grown quiet in the cold.
I touched eclipse,
the burning crown,
it poured its gold,
and darkness down,
with one brief taste of all I dreamed to hold.
To reach the crown of Teide’s head,
You climb where jagged stones are spread,
I see the darkened crown eclipse,
With dust and silence on your lips.
The slope is thorned, the climb is steep,
It cuts the bone, it wakes the deep.
But those who reach that height up there
Find sudden stillness in the air.
This magnificence is vast and true,
But only part of the journey through.
But this was not,
the final place,
the road still turned,
beyond that grace,
with one more path still waiting to be faced.
For every wish,
that we pursue,
burns like eclipse,
then passes through,
with only momentary peace in hand.
To reach the crown of Teide’s head,
You climb where jagged stones are spread,
I see the darkened crown eclipse,
With dust and silence on your lips.
The slope is thorned, the climb is steep,
It cuts the bone, it wakes the deep.
But those who reach that height up there
Find sudden stillness in the air.
This magnificence is vast and true,
But only part of the journey through.
Life is a climb,
through loss and flame,
we reach, we rest,
then rise again,
-
with every end becoming one more start.
