Lilies

Lilies, old man, yours are divinely fair!
In awe all those around stop and stare.
Lovely little flower for my soul to tend,
Yours I’ll buy to keep, my dearest friend.

I’ll buy your flower so I remember all!
Do I thus live a day, though not in love,
One day without her - just a single day -
Love is the life without which none can stay.

Of your flowers I take the freshest one;
Very best I’ve taken now from you.
Even golden ray of youthful dreams begun
Your bloom will comfort me, forever true.

Old man, your lilies still are wondrously fair -
Under youth’s white blossoms they declare.
