My tender love—
a nuclear blast:
it destroys the false,
yet preserves what lasts.
This strange love of ours
is our pride.
It was born in Los Alamos —
this incinerating light.
Look — do you want to feel my love?
Are you ready to burn
and crumble into ash?
I have loved before,
many years ago —
all that I could give,
it smashed.
Everything burns in this flame:
resentments, disappointments,
indifference, mistrust.
It would be no surprise if the world —
born of love —
were to perish by love at last.
