Aching To Be Free

Do you remember the temple on the naked hill?
Do you remember faith laid down here to kneel?
Even truth has fallen here with time —
But who would hear the old steeple chime?

Inside the cold twilight of the walls
The chosen ones tried to save their souls,
Seeking lost love like worms in the rain —
But the dead god heard no tears of pain.

So why
Another mindless death should be
To understand what you believe?
Imagined — death was a sign of freedom.
I laugh, my friend, your hope to see
Just dust in the wind
That makes me aching to be free.

Do you remember a messiah among sheep?
The seal of truth from beyond on his lips?
Just embrace him — and heaven would come.
Are you not? — Burn in hell with the damned.

Do you remember what he promised in his lies?
He exchanged life for a handful of dreams.
“I shall live forever — I’m saved!”
Praise for You — screamed from the dug-up grave.

So why
Another mindless death should be
To understand what you believe?
Imagined — death was a sign of freedom.
I laugh, my friend, your hope to see
Just dust in the wind
That makes me aching to be free.

Do you remember the temple burned on the hill?
Do you know the human strength of the kneel?
In the name of life — they chose death.
But what life in the ash do they possess?

Do you think when you close your hands to pray?
Is it weakness of man who betrayed?
Look — gray stones hold the echo of the past
And remember the trace of hope in the dust.

How long
Another mindless death should be
To understand what you believe?
Imagined — death was a sign of freedom.
I laugh, my friend, your hope to see
Just dust in the wind
That makes me aching to be free.

Leave all to chance
And breathe the open sea
That brings
A fairy rainfall and a dance —
And only this, my friend, believe:
It’s aching to be free.
