From These Ashes

I stand again upon this fragile edge,
Where silence stares and answers never come.
Can I still trust a world that let you fade?
My soul burns on, though everything is numb.

It hurts to lose you once and yet again,
A memory time never will erase.
I turn to ash inside this endless flame,
And grief has made its hollow in your place.

How can I live where you no longer are?
How can I breathe in this unfaithful air?
I loved you then. I love you even now.
Come back to me… I’m lost within despair.

I burn, I fade, becoming dust and smoke,
A shadow of the man I used to be.
Our nights still whisper softly in my mind,
But you walked out and took my peace with thee.

How can I live when hope itself has died?
How can I stand when all I was is gone?
You left forever, vanished from my sky,
And left my broken soul to carry on.

Yet time, they say, can heal what fire destroys,
And even ash can nourish something new.
I cast our memories into the wind,
And feel a fragile strength begin to grow.

I breathe again. I rise from what remained.
The dark recedes; a distant light appears.
My soul, once buried deep beneath the pain,
Awakes at last beyond its grief and tears.

I want to live.
I want to love again.
And from these ashes—
I begin.
