Plekhanov said these words (which did not particularly reveal his softness and concessions to the workers), while at the same time claiming that at our party congress "only Akimov spoke against orthodox Marxism." And immediately after these narcissistic statements, the entire leaflet (листок, лист) of the Voronezh Committee is printed (in solidarity, as everyone knows, with tt. Akimov and Brucker), and it turns out that the editors of the new Iskra hid (скрывать) from the public (No. 61) the entire principal part of the leaflet (листок), the entire expression of sympathy (сочуствие) for the new Iskra. Who turned out to look like a sparrow? What party institution is now comparable to a vegetable garden? Remember the author of the article "It's Time!" in the appendix (приложение) to No. No. 73-74 of Iskra. As a frank (откровенный) and honest (честный) representative of the views held (проводимых) by all the delegates of the "swamp" (пер. в значении «болото») at our entire congress, this comrade directly declared his disagreement with Plekhanov, directly expressed his opinion that "Akimov played the role of a ghost of opportunism («призрак оппортунизма») rather than its actual representative at the congress." And the poor editorial staff had to undergo (подвергнуть) some kind of non-commissioned officer operation over and over again.The editorial board provided the following note to the author of the article "It's time!":
"One cannot agree with this opinion. In the programmatic views of сomrade Akimov bears the obvious stamp (явная печать) of opportunism, which is also recognized by a critic of «Osvobozhdenie» in one of its recent issues, noting that сomrade Akimov adheres (примыкать, становиться последователем чего-либо) to the "realistic," read: the revisionist trend."
Isn't that sweet? In the programmatic views of T. Akimov (with whom they voted together, in disputes about the program, almost always the tt. Martynov, Brucker and the Bundists, very often the delegates of the swamp (пер. «болото)) there is opportunism (пер. «оппортунизм»). And there is no opportunism in his tactical and organizational views, is that so, gentlemen? Is it not because you are silent about these latest views that the new «Iskra» has pompously (пер. «с помпой», «помпезно») put forward new organizational disagreements and said exactly what Martynov and Akimov said earlier against the old Iskra? Is it not because the new tactical disagreements put forward by the latest Iskra are entirely a repetition of what Martynov and Akimov said long ago against the old Iskra? How useful it would be to republish (переиздать, перевыпустить) No. 10 of «Rabocheye Delo»!
And who does the editorial board (редакция, члены редакции) of the new Iskra itself cite as a judge and witness against сomrade Akimova? -- Mr. Struve. The judge is good, he is really an expert, a connoisseur (знаток), a champion and an expert in matters of opportunism. All the more significant is the response of this witness, called by the editorial board itself, about the content of Trotsky's views. And don't forget that Trotsky's pamphlet (брошюра) was published under the editorship (под редакцией) of Iskra (No. 72, page 10, column 3). Trotsky's "new" views are editorial views («редакционные взгляды») approved by Plekhanov, Axelrod, Zasulich, Starover, and Martov.
The verdict of the judge, who sympathized with the new Iskra and was summoned by it, - was that of a man of empty words and «akimovism» (unfortunately, the latter in a caricature form).
