The price of existence
Once, when life was costly,
It was just the basics-food, gas, shelter
Things you needed to survive.
But now, those essentials
Still drain your pockets,
And it's more than just surviving.
Each morning, I wake,
Swiping a credit card at life's bar,
The tab grows with every day.
Life asks, "What will you have?"
And I say, "I'm fine, I need nothing".
But life demands, "If you're here,
You're paying the price".
Just existing in this world
Comes at a cost.
It's reached the point where
Even my thoughts feel expensive,
As if thinking too much
Might break the bank.
