Hurt Like Hell, Dream Like Heaven
I’m flipping through old Polaroids like pages in a will,
Each smile’s a tiny dagger - yeah, nostalgia f*****g kills.
We were jet-fuel reckless, burning up both ends,
Now I’m just the ashes and you’re somewhere with him.
I drown the past in whiskey but it swims up through the ice,
A bitter taste of "forever" that dissolved in just one night.
The jukebox plays our soundtrack but the words don’t hit the same,
‘Cause every chord’s a funeral for fires we couldn’t tame.
Oh, we hurt like hell, but we dream like heaven,
Tangled in the sheets like saints with dirty confessions.
I’m a riot of regrets in a rented room,
Screaming at the moon like it’s gonna answer soon.
Oh-oh-oh, we were lightning in a bottle,
Oh-oh-oh, now I’m just the afterglow.
Your lipstick’s on my collar but your heart’s in someone’s fist,
A masterpiece of mixed signals I’m too tired to resist.
We built a life on maybes - cardboard castles in the rain,
Now I’m picking through the ruins for the love we couldn’t save.
I wear my pride like armor but it’s rusting at the seams,
A knight in dented Honda, chasing yesterdays in dreams.
The city screams your name in every neon-lighted sign,
But the letters blur like goodbyes I was too weak to write.
Maybe in another lifetime we’re the heroes, not the ghosts,
Two kids in a backseat making vows the stars would hold.
But this ain’t no fairy tale - just a cautionary rhyme,
So I’ll torch our atlas, let the flames write the eulogy tonight.
So here’s to the crash, here’s to the fall,
Here’s to the gods who laughed at it all.
I’ll stitch my wounds with guitar strings,
And let the broken-hearted angels sing:
We hurt like hell… but oh, we dreamed.
