I m Not Who I Used to Need

A cycle of poems «The Last Letter I Burned Was My Own»

The mirror cracks, I see the change,
A face once known, now feels so strange.

Faded echoes of yesterday,
Reflections lost and slipped away.

I’m not who I used to need,
Breaking free from what we bleed.
Shadows fall where hope once breathed,
I’m not who I used to need.

We built a world on fragile ground,
Now silence sings where love once found.
The promises that we believed,
Are worn-out threads we both deceived.

Faded echoes of yesterday,
Reflections lost and slipped away.

I’m not who I used to need,
Breaking free from what we bleed.
Shadows fall where hope once breathed,
I’m not who I used to need.

Your touch now feels like distant fire,
A fading spark of lost desire.
The roads we took have split in two,
And neither one leads back to you.

If I could turn the hands of time,
Rewrite the words, rearrange the rhyme.
But now the truth I can’t ignore,
I’m someone new than days before.

The past is gone, a fading gleam,
A stranger’s face within the dream.
I’m drifting from what used to be -
No longer who I used to need.
