Soul

The woods are soft, the clearing deep,
A world held in a hushed embrace.
I’ve strayed where ancient secrets sleep,
To find my heart in this wild space.

My spirit sings, my spirit sighs,
And finds the wings it used to know.
The heavy world behind me dies.
While here, the seeds of stillness grow.

With scents of earth and wood and wind,
The forest weaves a dizzying spell.
It lays me where the grass is thinned,
To rest where all is right and well.

A cricket finds his voice again.
The dew is cool upon my hand.
I look beyond the reach of men,
To where the azure heavens stand.

A moment carved of pure delight,
As weightless as a drifting breath.
I’m ready to embrace the light.
And lose myself in a sweet dream's depth.
