Orchids
They captivate our wandering eyes anew.
They seem like thoughts embodied in their graces,
Surprising mind and dazzling every view.
Look at a petal’s subtle transformation—
A bird, a beetle, or a comic guise.
As if some secret art or revelation
Awakens wonder, fresh before our eyes.
Their bloom and fragrance stir a living wonder,
And set the trembling heartbeat into flight.
In them we glimpse creation shining yonder,
A gift to help us taste life’s pure delight.
The Maker shaped all this for our elation,
Adorning earth with love in every part.
He is the wise, eternal Sculptor, whose creation
Brings gentle comfort to the seeking heart.
God wished that we would pause, not rush through being,
And look within this world with quiet care.
To share in simple joys of daily seeing,
And let our souls find depth and meaning there.
God wished that we would marvel, softly smiling,
At every leaf and every tender line.
That beauty, in its humble self;unveiling,
Would touch the soul and make its light align.
So study every random pattern’s weaving,
Receive its joy, and let all haste depart.
A flower, in its sacred mystery breathing,
Is heaven’s present for an open heart.
