Trumpization of World Politics

I’ll take the liberty of proposing a new political science term. «Trump» in the meaning of «trump card». I’m not particularly skilled at card games — I prefer chess or martial arts with cold weapons. But today, the «trumpization» of world affairs is exactly what I see.

The parties alternately hold back and play their trump cards. Sometimes they go all-in. Often, this happens on the verge of cheating or trying to «bluff» their way through.

The blessed times when politics resembled a game of chess are gone forever. Now it’s a far more exciting card game — one in which players who claim to have more trump cards up their sleeve arbitrarily set the rules and then break them themselves.

This game is highly captivating and unpredictable in its development. The only thing that seems predictable, I fear, is the ending: everyone will end up as «the fool»…
