Will You Stay
when my steps turn heavy and low?
When my eyes can no longer shine,
will you still lay your hand in mine?
Will the porch still be mine to guard?
Will your heart stay open, not hard?
Will I still be your little one,
even when all my strength is gone?
Will you stay when I start to fade?
Will your love never be afraid?
Will you keep my name in your song?
Will you say, “You were mine all along”?
When I can’t climb the stairs at night,
will you hold me soft in your light?
Will you whisper that I belong,
even if I don’t feel as strong?
Can your lap still be my old throne?
Will I never feel cast alone?
When I bark with no sense or aim,
will you smile and call my name?
Please don’t leave me behind.
Don’t say I’m just old.
I gave you all my days,
my heart, brave and bold.
If I forget your face,
still call me your own.
Let me fall asleep near
the smell of our home.
Will you let me dream by your side?
Will you miss me when gods decide?
Please stay near.
