The Amazing Faces We Make

Looking through my sister’s old photo albums always makes me wonder. How can she look so different in every single picture? And here’s the really weird part – these photos were taken just a few days apart. Back then, they didn’t have all that fancy computer wizardry we have now, maybe just a little bit of Photoshop if you were lucky. I figured it out eventually, and they even showed me a few things. Apparently, our faces are made up of around 60 tiny muscles. Most of the time, they just do their own thing automatically. But, with special practice, you can actually learn to control each and every one of them! It’s pretty amazing, because we don’t even use most of these muscles in our everyday lives. Our expressions tend to be pretty much the same, you know? But if you do use them, you can create all sorts of incredible faces. And guess what? If you add makeup to that, even people who know you really well wouldn’t recognize you in a photo.

*The photo here is my sister on a magazine cover, but I've blurred out the magazine title and her stage name so I'm not advertising anything for anyone. It's just one of those pictures where she looks nothing like herself.
