The Summer We Forgot

There is still sand lying in the hallway
In the pocket of a jacket that hangs unused.
We drank warm apple juice,
And you looked into the distance without really looking.
No drama, no broken vases or tears,
Only the fan slicing through the stifling air.
A question hung, but who asked the question?
It’s probably too late to wait for an answer.

The asphalt was melting, sticking to our soles,
We were close, but somewhere in the past.
Not movie heroes, not a novel's plot,
Just two people in the center of self-deception.

Припев
It is the summer that we forgot,
Although it lasted, it seemed, an eternity.
We just drifted, we just existed,
Losing our carelessness like loose change.
No photographs, no vivid dreams,
Only the heat and the dust of roads.
A summer where words were not enough,
And each of us stepped over our own threshold.

I remember a sound — an out-of-tune grand piano
Playing at the neighbors' behind a thin wall.
Your smile — like a veil,
And a knee scraped to blood.
We didn’t go to the sea, we slept during the day,
Hiding from the sun behind a thick curtain.
We thought we were still together,
But the silence had already become a quarrel.

August left without slamming the door,
Like a guest who isn't welcome here.
I don't believe myself anymore,
That we were looking for a reward in that stuffiness.

Only the heat and the dust of roads.

And each of us stepped over our own threshold.

Forgot...

But why do I remember every glimmer?
