A Night in Manhattan

The waiter turned the last chair upside down,
Across the street, the mannequin went dark inside.
You fixed your scarf, I sought a verb, a noun,
To keep this evening from just sliding with the tide.
The asphalt smells of coffee and old leaves,
The jazz has faded, but the tune remains in me.
We're on our own, like figures in a frieze,
Gliding through frames of film noir history.

The steam from manholes dances like a ghost,
A door slams shut, then silence takes the floor.

Припев
This is Manhattan when it takes off its mask,
No taxi horns, no words that go to waste.
Just us and windows, performing their task,
Where every color is a dream we’ve chased.
No need to rush, let the red light stay on,
Inside this pause, the journey finds its way.
Manhattan at 3 AM is like a dawn,
That makes you want to walk and never stray.

I look at you, no need for wine or pills,
This night forgives us everything, in full.
Your laughter echoed off the windowsills,
And froze a hundred stories in the cool.
There’s no one here, just us and heavely dough,
The moon that looks like cheddar for a mouse.
We own these streets, in case you didn't know,
Before the morning comes to wake the house.

And let tomorrow spin its crazy wheel,
With traffic jams and people rushing by.
Right now this island has a way to heal,
Keeping the echoes of our alibi...

Припев
This is Manhattan when it takes off its mask!
No taxi horns, no words that go to waste!
Just us and windows, performing their task!
Where every color is a dream we’ve chased!

No need to rush...
Manhattan sleeps...
Just you and I...
