Kaleidoscope Mind

Scrolling through my sister's feed is like flipping through a strange, sometimes sad, picture book. She's upset again, something about a date gone wrong. And you know what? I'm kind of glad. Don't get me wrong, I love my sister. I just hate seeing her so tired, so desperate to build something with people who just… don't fit. They're like puzzle pieces from different boxes, these guys she lets in. And it chips away at her, you can see it. She starts thinking these are her only options. But that's not true. A "marriage" from that kind of compromise? It's like trying to build a house on sand.

Oh, I remember last spring, she’d planned a date, and I overheard her on the phone, trying to figure out something as simple as what to order for food. Pizza? Sushi? I can’t recall the exact details, but the guy basically said if it cost money, he wasn’t ordering anything. I mean, I don’t remember the exact wording, but the gist was he’d show up for the date as long as my sister was paying for everything. Then he followed up with something like, “We’ll have to split it if that’s the case, otherwise, don’t order.” I laughed so hard I fell right off my bed. Seriously, what kind of people are out there? Even at my age, I’ve never been on dates like that. The boys I was with at cafes were always trying to treat me, offering me things. I always said no, though. That’s just how my sister is. She used to be a genius, almost like me, you know? Haha.
