Little Driver

Can you believe it? I'm just a regular ol' first grader, but I'm already a total whiz behind the wheel of a car. Okay, okay, so I don't actually have a driver's license yet. Duh! That's like, way too early. And I only know the super basic road signs. Who even needs to worry about all that other stuff right now? By the time I'm old enough to take the test, the rules will probably change a million times anyway. Plus, I don't even know what country I'll be living in when I get my license! So, yeah, we're skipping that whole part... for now.

Of course, I didn't just jump straight into a real car. Nope, that would be silly. First, I practiced on this super cool, professional driving simulator. It was surprisingly easy for me, like I was born for it! After just a week, I was maneuvering that thing like a seasoned truck driver. Then, we moved on to a real car. We didn't drive around town, obviously. We went out to this… this… whatcha call it… a racetrack! Yeah, that's it! It's where those street racers hang out at night. No, no, I'm not one of them... maybe later, haha!

So, we practiced out there. I learned to drive stick shift first, and then later, I got the hang of the automatic transmission too. And you know what they told me, and I'll never forget it? "That little red button on the gearshift? Don't you ever push that, especially not to mess around!" They were talking about the "Nitro" button, I think. They giggled about it, so I'm not totally sure if they were serious or just messing with me.

"Why would you even learn all this?" you might ask. Well, for starters, I'm a super curious kid, and I'm always, always up for trying new things. Especially when the wind is in your hair, your favorite music is blasting, and the city lights are all around you at night – how could anyone resist that?! But, more importantly, there are situations that can pop up in life. Like, what if there's a car but no driver, and someone needs to get to the hospital fast? Am I just supposed to stand around and wait? Psh! I could totally handle that. It's also about the element of surprise. Most people would just be totally shocked. Who expects a little girl to hop into a car and drive like a pro? Haha!
