Homeland Is Within Me
Like pages in ancient books.
Memory paints on them all
My many-sided looks.
There in a window’s glow,
In glass and city light,
I feel my Homeland near me,
Wherever I walk at night.
Everything shifts and flows —
Time, love, the passing years.
Yet in my deepest core
Something unmoved appears.
Something inside responds
Each time I look back through:
Hear how my Homeland’s heartbeat
Beats in my own — so true.
Homeland — it isn’t walls,
Homeland — it lives in me.
Something that always stays,
Even when we’re far at sea.
Homeland — it’s in the “we,”
In every vacancy.
Homeland — alive as long as we breathe,
As long as we feel — we’re we.
We walked our different roads,
Each bound to our own fate.
Still there is one clear truth
We never could separate:
The ones we hold as dear
Live deep inside our chest;
And Homeland rises with us
Where all our dreams find rest.
Something protects and guides,
Softly through every storm.
Even when all we trusted
Fails to remain in form —
There in the coldest night,
Under the weary rain,
Homeland becomes the lantern
Lit in our soul again.
Homeland — it isn’t walls,
Homeland — it lives in me.
Something that always stays,
Even when we’re far at sea.
Homeland — it’s in the “we,”
In every vacancy.
Homeland — alive as long as we breathe,
As long as we feel — we’re we.
And if we lose our way
At every crossroads bend,
Homeland is what remains
After each broken step.
Found in our longest silence,
Found in the hardest love —
Something that shapes our footsteps
Toward brighter Earth above.
Homeland — it isn’t walls,
Homeland — it lives in me.
Something that still stays true,
Even when far we flee.
Homeland — our living “we,”
Strength in our unity.
Homeland — alive as long as we’re together,
As long as we’re faithful — we’re free.
Homeland — alive as long as we’re together,
As long as we’re faithful — we’re free.
