Remember, My Love

Based on the poem by Sergei Yesenin

Do you remember - yes, remember still,
The trembling silence by the wall?
You paced the room, your voice was chill,
And shadows drifted down the hall.

You said: “It’s time, we’ve reached the end,
Your reckless life can’t follow mine.
You must descend as I ascend -
Our roads divide, our stars decline.”

My love, you never loved me true,
You never saw through smoke and crowd -
A weary horse that once you knew,
Whipped on by fate, yet standing proud.

You never knew how storms can blind,
How smoke devours sky and sea -
And still I wander, lost in mind,
Not knowing where our course will be.

Face to face - no face is clear,
Greatness seen from far away.
When the sea begins to sear,
The ship has lost its way.

The Earth’s that ship - through storm and snow,
Someone steers with silent might,
Chasing dreams the brave ones know,
Into the heart of night.

My love, you never loved me true,
You never saw through smoke and crowd -
A weary horse that once you knew,
Whipped on by fate, yet standing proud.

Remember me - though years may pass,
Through storm and song, through dark and flame.
For every shadow leaves, alas,
A heart that whispers still - your name.
