Drowning in the Chorus

A cycle of poems «Your Melody of Heartache»

Neon nights and empty seats,
Lonely echoes on repeat,
Every word a scar, discreet -
Lost myself, can’t find my beat.

Waves of sound crash over me,
Pulled beneath, where hearts can’t see.

I’m drowning in the chorus,
Waves of voices pour above us,
Shouting what was left before us,
Broken lines that can’t restore us -
I’m drowning in the chorus.

We used to sing with steady hands,
Two notes entwined just like we planned,
But verses faded, couldn’t withstand
Promises washed from shifting sand.

Waves of sound crash over me,
Pulled beneath, where hearts can’t see.

I’m drowning in the chorus,
Waves of voices pour above us,
Shouting what was left before us,
Broken lines that can’t restore us -
I’m drowning in the chorus.

Midnight thunder shakes the floor,
I search for you behind each door,
But every melody I implore
Leaves me emptier than before.

If I could break through the refrain,
Drag myself from all this rain,
Would you reach out, heal the pain,
Or just let me sink again?

Last refrain, light growing thin,
Only silence stretching in -
I vanish where the song begins,
Drowning in the chorus’ spin.
