Like a little statue stood the maiden, waiting,
And the pirate steered his ship to reach her on the shore.
Fell in love and called her, heart anticipating,
“Bird upon the branches of my soul.”

But one night he saw her with a handsome cowboy,
On the sand together – laughing, kissing side by side.
With a single bullet, driven by his sorrow,
Shot them both and wandered through the tide.

When the dawn was breaking, crying for his lady,
Knowing passion’s fire none alive could ever hold,
Shot himself in silence – ending, faint and shady,
Bird upon the branches of his soul.

Жил пират угрюмый в дебрях Амазонки,
Жил пират, не верящий в любовь.
Но когда однажды, после канонады
После страшной битвы возвращался он домой
Стройная фигурка цвета шоколада
Помахала с берега рукой.

И пират корабль свой к ней направить поспешил.
И в неё влюбился, и её назвал он

Стройную креолку он увидел на песке.
И одною пулей он убил обоих
И бродил по берегу в тоске.

И когда под утро, плача о креолке,
Понял он, что в сердце страсть не может потушить –
Выстрелил в себя он, чтоб навек умолкла
Птичка на ветвях его души.
