Shake the snow
I lift the snow globe from the piano lid,
The dust motes dance where evening sunlight falls.
I trace the scuffs and scratches, just as I did,
And hear the echo of a time recalled.
The hallway clock still ticks out steady time,
The house holds still, a silence sweet and deep.
My hands find home on keys that once were mine,
And wake a promise that I always keep.
[Chorus]
Shake the snow, and time comes home,
Every snowflake knows my name.
Keys of ivory, whispering low,
They gave me music, gave me flame.
A gift from Grandpa, dressed as snow,
This piano gave me a world to know.
[Verse 2 ]
I see the big red ribbon on the keys,
I hear his laugh, “The sleighs are hard,” he’d say.
He’d hum along to fix my shaky ease,
And show me how the pedal works in play.
He taught me honest, how the truth could fly,
A guiding star in one slightly sharp key.
I learned to sing beneath a lamplight moon,
And every quiet moment sang to me.
[Chorus]
Shake the snow, and time comes home,
Every snowflake knows my name.
Keys of ivory, whispering low,
They gave me music, gave me flame.
A gift from Grandpa, dressed as snow,
This piano gave me a world to know.
[Bridge ]
There’s a folded note beside the dusty strings,
Tucked in a place that only I would find.
It reads: “Play true, and see what music brings.
I’ll hear you play it, in my heart and mind.”
When this one music starts to softly call,
The hotel rooms and lonely borrowed halls
All melt away, leaving my little world,
And Grandpa wisdom in a snowflakes swirl.
[Chorus]
Shake the snow, and time comes home,
Every snowflake knows my name.
Keys of ivory, whispering low,
They gave me music, gave me flame.
Santa's hands were Grandpa's own,
This piano made the whole world my home.
