First snowfall

Now the July storms have faded away,
I hear cries as the last birds take flight.
Rose petals fell, like a book torn astray—
A hundred pages scattered in white.

Now by day and night I feel the winter’s chill,
My porch is breathing in the icy gloom.
I know the time is coming, yes, I will,
Snowfall soon will find me near the bloom.

                (припев)
First snowfall, first snowfall, it’s just two hundred feet,
From the ground to the cold and distant sky.
First snowfall, first snowfall, I’m calling, please greet—
My old spell, as I’m longing for your reply.

But the winter won’t hurry, just shimmering stars,
Sending down a magical ray in the night.
A hope for the snow, like a bridge made of stars,
From the past to the summers shining bright.

Now the black fields are dusted with frost,
Every minute, the whiteness will grow.
Those who beg winter’s mercy are lost—
They won’t tire of longing for snow.

All that’s left is to wait and endure,
Dream of spring and its gentle embrace.
Warming hands on our faces, unsure,
Through a hundred cold nights in this place.

                (припев)
First snowfall, first snowfall, it’s just two hundred feet,
From the ground to the cold and distant sky.
First snowfall, I’m calling, please greet—
My old spell, as I’m longing for your reply.

From my heart, I am singing so you cannot find rest,
Tearing strings in the frost, breaking silence apart.
Why so slow, Winter, why? Won’t you throw me in jest—
Just one snowball, for my song touched your heart.
