The Road Is Calling

The road is calling me.
I'm still trying
To catch the wind.
I want to see
What will happen
If I don't give in.

I want to feel again
That moment
When
You accelerate to the limit
And leave behind
All that is insignificant—
The futile and the fleeting—
Far behind,
Hopelessly
Lagging.

I want to feel again
That peace and freedom,
As if you're standing
Face to face
With the entire world.

That sharp surge of adrenaline
Known to the climber
Who has reached the summit,
And to the astronaut
Who sees the Earth
Through the porthole.

And that moment
When everything
Becomes profoundly silent,
And all you hear is
Your own quick pulse
And steady breath.

And you understand
That never in your life
Have you felt yourself
A part of this world
More acutely
Than in this practically unreal
Instant.
