The Lighthouse Heart

I watch the city start to fade,
A skyline canvas, newly made.
The moon hangs like a silver tear,
Reminding me you are not here.
I try to read a brand new book,
But every word and every look
Just pulls me back into the blue,
An endless ocean made of you.

You are the ghost inside the static,
A beautiful and sweet dramatic.
You are the anchor and the tide,
The place my weary senses hide.
You built a lighthouse in my soul,
That's spinning out of my control.
And even when the world is loud,
You're the one face in every crowd.

I take the long way driving home,
Through avenues I used to roam.
I change the songs up on the air,
Pretending that I just don't care.
I try to make some different plans,
Escape the grip of circumstance.
But every turn and every sign
Shows your reflection over mine.

And is it memory or a dream?
This phantom, iridescent stream.
It flows through everything I do,
This afterglow, this shade of you.
I reach for something I can hold,
A story waiting to be told.

You are the ghost inside the static,
A beautiful and sweet dramatic.
You are the anchor and the tide,
The place my weary senses hide.
You built a lighthouse in my soul,
That's spinning out of my control.
And even when the world is loud,
You're the one face in every crowd.

In my soul... (soul... soul...)
In the crowd... (crowd... crowd...)
Spinning now... (now... now...)
