The Wright brothers, Wilbur and Orville, were American inventors credited with the first successful power-controlled airplane flight in 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, using their designed and built aircraft, the Wright Flyer. Their childhood interest in flight, sparked by a toy helicopter, led them to open a bicycle shop, which funded their extensive aviation experiments and eventual creation of the first fully practical airplane in 1905.
