Deer of the Forest

On an autumn day, so grey with rain,
Through the city streets he ran again.
Like a fiery arrow, swift and free,
From the rust-red forest came to me.

Return, oh forest deer, hear my heart’s desire!
Carry me away, lift my spirit higher,
Where the pines reach skyward, where dreams and tales entwine,
Take me to that land, oh forest deer of mine!

As he ran, his antlers touched the skies,
Brushed the clouds where storm and silence lies.
And it seemed the heavens, dark and dim,
Turned to endless blue above for him.

Return, oh forest deer, hear my heart’s desire!
Carry me away, lift my spirit higher,
Where the pines reach skyward, where dreams and tales entwine,
Take me to that land, oh forest deer of mine!
