Running Out of Time

I’m just an ordinary guy,
You walk on past, don’t even try.
I’m working hard, can’t take a break,
So many things, so much at stake.

I’ve got a list a mile long,
Each one shouting: “Don’t be wrong!”
Deadlines pressing, can’t delay,
Guess that’s just my everyday.

The days are short, the hours fly,
No time for love, and I know why.
But if I had a little more,
If thirty-six were what days were for,
I’d steal a moment, just a glance,
And give our story half a chance.

Life without work? No way to live.
And love is hard, I’ve none to give.
By midnight I am home at last,
Still chasing dreams that slip so fast.

What am I supposed to do?
Each man must choose, and follow through.
Though I may stumble, though I sigh,
I keep on running, I must try.

The days are short, the hours fly,
No time for love, and I know why.
But if I had a little more,
If thirty-six were what days were for,
I’d steal a moment, just a glance,
And give our story half a chance.

Morning comes, I rush away,
Work is waiting, every day.
Sandwich packed, I eat on run,
It’s not ideal - but life goes on.

No time for lunches, no long meals,
I save the minutes, that’s the deal.
Skip the soup, skip all the rest,
Time’s too precious for a feast.

The days are short, the hours fly,
No time for love, and I know why.
But if I had a little more,
If thirty-six were what days were for,
I’d steal a moment, just a glance,
And give our story half a chance.

Yes, life is short, but work comes first,
Youth is fleeting, thirst is thirst.
Someday I’ll stop, and then I’ll see,
The life I built, what waits for me.

If I could stretch the hands of time,
To thirty-six, it would be fine.
So many things I’d finally do,
I’d live my life, and love it too.
