Open Wound

What does it feel like, you ask me, to be an open wound?

It hurts, I reply. But you get used to the pain as it’s the only feeling you’ve ever known.

The only time it gets worse is when you get a glimpse of pain free days, a teaser of what others must feel like—the ones who are not broken. Because once the illusion fades, you’re back to being an open wound.
