Belong to None

Her eyes don't mirror distant stars,
A living flame, a moth takes flight.
Another fading evening's ours,
But with her, every time, it's bright.

Her cool remarks, a chilling breeze,
Like August grass when freshly mown.
Though truth might scatter from her pleas,
She's divinely, utterly right, I own.

Somewhere the angels softly sigh,
"Forgive, goodbye!"
My soul, a candle, starts to wane.
A deep despair, a heavy sigh -
I'm yours forever, heart and soul,
While you, my love, belong to none.

Her radiance outshines the sun,
My blood grows cold within her shade.
This kind of joy, so dearly won,
A priceless crown, a price well paid.

Bridge (Inspired by Sonnet 130)
Her eyes no stars, her lips no coral's kiss,
No snow-white skin, no silken thread.
A raven's strand her dark hair is,
No perfect lines, no haloed head.
No Damask rose her cheek can claim,
Her body breathes as bodies do.
No violet petal, soft and tame,
Just honest scent, refreshingly true.
She walks the earth, no goddess high,
No shining brow, no perfect form.
Yet those with false comparisons, I deny -
She conquers beauty's every storm.

Each lonely 'jack' within her hand
Falls victim to a jealous rage.
She stands alone across the land
And turns a long-familiar page.
And from my grasp, she slips away
Along a path she's always known.

Somewhere the angels softly sigh,
"Forgive, goodbye!"
My soul, a candle, starts to wane.
A deep despair, a heavy sigh -
I'm yours forever, heart and soul,
While you, my love, belong to none.

I'm yours forever, heart and soul,
While you, my love, belong to none.
Belong to none... Goodbye.
