The house elf

The moon peeked in through our window tonight,
Too lonely to sleep in her sky so bright.
A teddy bear yawns and curls on the bed —
He’s tired from stories he acted and said.

The house elf hums a soft sleepy song,
He calls gentle dreams to come float along.
The old sleepy cat is starting to purr,
He’s had quite enough of the city’s blur.

The soldier now sleeps while standing upright,
His boots are all shined, his belt fastened tight.
The house elf has helped him end his long day —
All rifles are stacked and tucked safe away.

The train in the hallway dreams of the track,
Of pulling its wagons and not looking back.
The books on the shelf are still and aligned,
All guarding the treasure of curious minds.

A hedgehog and squirrel sleep side by side,
They’ve worked on a house with effort and pride.
Now bedtime is here for dreamers and toys —
Let morning take care of the mess and noise.
