empty hall
A dance in an empty hall
Just you and me.
The walls flake with time,
the room hollowed by absence.
No audience,
no past,
and no future.
I lead.
Not because you asked –
but because you let me.
And for a while,
that was enough.
You look at me
like someone passing through a dream
they chose not to wake from.
And I keep holding on,
though I already know how this ends.
When the music –
the one only I hear – stops,
we’ll let go.
We won’t speak.
We’ll turn
and walk
into separate lives,
as if we never met.
