Just thirty miles outside Manchester
Lies the Roman city of Chester,
With its medieval wall surrounding the city,
Its old white-timbered dwellings, oh so pretty.

The old market square where goods were bartered and bought,
The remains of the amphitheatre where gladiators fought.
Walk through the Roman garden with its ornate pillars,
Forgetting the invaders were bloodthirsty killers.

Gaze up at the wall, damaged in the English Civil War
The cannons and muskets, the sound of the soldiers' roar.
A place where battles were fought with much gore
Just enjoy the experience; you don't need a guided tour.

Walking on the wall, looking down at the River Dee,
In Chester there's so much to do, so much to see.

Medieval public houses to get something hot to eat
What a day we have had, what a treat!
The visit has gone like a dream;
Finish it off with a nice ice cream.
