The marble ghosts

Sometimes all this turns out a battlefield.
Love rises like a temple that we have built.
It was joyful and pain-filled,
like the ruins on this hill
all together

There's laughter here, through tears though
I say something meaningful, you say oh

In this heat comes the loss of sanity
to you and me

This day ties the past and the future.
Tender mandolin and tart red wine.
The houses of Plaka cast shadows
The smells of our youth make us feel fine
in these narrow streets that I’m walking through
to you

Here we come to see off the dying day
the city lies below like pebbles, white and grey
the sun rolls down the neighboring slope
and leaves us with a vague hope
immersing to the sea

Lost in thought, I walk to and fro
I hold you tight as worries grow

The marble ghosts wander all around
in the eternal town

There are 10 billion people out there,
but you are the only one I need
Sinless and adept like a hetaera,
a young girl with sabot on her feet
You belong here, so all this ain’t no new
for you.

The salt water eats away at my sunburned skin
Helios is as angry as I have never seen.
Would I manage to cross the sea
like that guy from the Odyssey
to reach the ends of earth?

Who waits out there: a friend or a foe?
I sowed my field with salt, you sighed oh

Hellenistic passions absorb me all away.
I leave today

This story looks epic in this spot site,
where love romanсe and crime go side by side
The taverns of Piraeus are full of sailors
who are ready for love and for a fight
but I return, I always return
to you
