О, я вижу тебя, лежащей вдоль Ист-Ривер,
лениво перебирающей струны Бруклинского моста,
ибо ты привыкла играть на арфе еще с тех пор,
как еврейские барышни из России вешали
свои арфы на чахоточные деревья Элис-Айланда...
О, спойте нам свои песни про Бердичев,
канючили эмиграционные чиновники,
прежде, чем поставить штамп на их лессе-пасе.
"Я не знаю песен про Бердичев, хотите про Сион?"
плакала кудрявая барышня со скрипкой.
Но чиновник не хотел про про Сион - этого добра
он уже наслушался в своей пресвитерианской церкви.
Ему хотелось услышать что-нибудь новенькое, современное.
И тут Статуя Свободы встала, собрала все арфы,
и пропев, "солидарность навсегда", отправилась
на Манхеттен в направлении знаменитого моста...
И с тех пор она буквально насилует Бруклинский
мост своим песнопением, откровенно мешая
нелегалам из суверенной Палестины торговать
статуями Свободы, сделанными в Китае,
бейсболками из Бангладеша, майками из Гондураса,
который в последнее время всех очень сильно беспокоит.

Oh, I see you lying along the East River,
idly plucking the strings of the Brooklyn Bridge,
for you have been accustomed to play the harp
since the days when the Jewish young ladies from Russia
hung their harps on the consumptive trees of Alice Island...
Oh, sing us your songs about Berdichev,
the immigration officials whined, before stamping their laisez-passer.
"I don't know songs about Berdichev, do you want songs about Zion?"
cried the curly-haired young lady with the violin.
But the official didn't want songs about Zion -
he had already heard enough of that stuff in his Presbyterian church.
He wanted to hear something new, something modern.
And then the Statue of Liberty stood up, gathered all the harps,
and sang, "solidarity forever" and headed
to Manhattan in the direction of the famous bridge...
And since then, she has been literally raping
the Brooklyn Bridge with her chant,
openly interfering with the illegals from undependent Palestine
who are selling statues of Liberty made in China,
baseball caps from Bangladesh, and T-shirts
from Honduras, which has been worrying everyone a lot lately.
