The Mongrel s Heart
A loyal friend, a happy sound.
He felt the hand upon his back,
A final stroke, a parting track.
"Goodbye, old boy," the words were said,
A heavy heart, a bowing head.
The collar tossed, a cruel release,
Leaving him there in silent grief.
The station hummed, a bustling place,
A current swept him from the space.
He watched his master disappear,
Two pools of sorrow, ever clear.
An old man sighed, "Another stray,"
"If you were pure, you'd have your way.
But you're a mutt, a common breed,"
Ignoring the heart that truly bled.
The engine roared, a fiery breath,
Ignoring the impending death.
Pulling away into the night,
Leaving him lost without reason or right.
Inside the train, laughter flew,
Of the abandoned boy, nobody knew.
Forgotten now, the faithful hound,
Left on the cold and lonely ground.
He chased the light, a distant gleam,
Fueled just by love, a broken dream.
Across the tracks, he strained and ran,
A desperate race, a loyal plan.
Each painful step, a burning sting,
His ragged breath, a silent ring.
Against the odds, he didn't yield,
To find the master, he's never concealed.
His strength gave way, his body failed,
Each breath became a painful wail.
He stumbled hard, a final fall,
Beneath the bridge, beyond recall.
For in that mongrel's weary breast,
A heart of gold, put to the test.
A soul so pure, a love so true,
More noble than the world knew.
