I Flew Away

The fiery sun illuminates the skies
With golden flames that light my way,
As on a cloud with red banners I rise,
Drifting aimlessly into the void today.

Oh, how «joyful», oh, how «cheerful» I feel—
Yet bitter tears my eyes betray.
Why did you not notice in the birch grove field
A fresh mound where I lay?

Upon this earth so clumpy and rough,
Stands a simple cross askew,
And the crimson sunset dyes the sky enough
To match the heavens' hue of blue.

The fiery sun has set behind the hills,
Its bright flame now gone from sight...
I flew away with red banners still,
Into infinity's endless night.
