Shattered Glass

A cycle of poems «When Your Love Turns to Ashes»

Sunrise creeping through the blinds
Another day, another kind
Of heavy pressure in my head
Repeating all the things unsaid

We built a castle made of dreams
Or at least, that's how it always seems
But fairy tales have jagged edges
And promises turn into ledges

Shattered glass, a million pieces
Reflecting fractured, faded leases
On love, on trust, on what we knew
Shattered glass, cutting through and through

Tried to glue the pieces back together
With apologies like stormy weather
They washed away, left scars behind
A constant whisper in my mind

Remember dancing in the kitchen light?
Now shadows linger in the night
Every memory a painful sting
The silent echo marriage bells won't ring

Shattered glass, a million pieces
Reflecting fractured, faded leases
On love, on trust, on what we knew
Shattered glass, cutting through and through

I see my face within the shards
A broken image, pulling cards
Of blame and anger, fear and doubt
Trying to figure how to get out

But even broken things can shine
A different kind of paradigm
A chance to build a stronger me
From all the wreckage, wild and free

Shattered glass, a million pieces
Reflecting fractured, faded leases
On love, on trust, on what we knew
Shattered glass, but I will see me through

I'll sweep it up, the broken past
Learn from the lessons built to last
And though the cuts may never heal
I'll find a way to truly feel
Whole again, beyond the pain
Beyond the shattered glass, the rain.
