President Trump 'remains in excellent health,' says White House physician
President Trump "remains in excellent health," according to the results of his annual physical, which the White House released Sunday morning.
The president underwent his annual physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday.
Trump, 78, exhibits "robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function," according to the report from Capt. Sean P. Barbabella, who performed Trump’s physical on Friday.
The report revealed that Trump underwent a colonoscopy in July 2024, which “revealed diverticulosis and a benign polyp.” Gastroenterologists recommended that the president should have a follow-up colonoscopy in 2027, according to the report.
Among other things, the report also said that the president passed his Montreal Cognitive Assessment with a perfect score of 30 out of 30, the same score he received on that assessment in 2018. He was also screened for depression and anxiety and had “scores within the normal range for both,” the report stated.

Trump is also currently taking four medications: two for cholesterol control, aspirin for cardiac health, and a cream for a skin condition, which the physician notes as “some minor sun damage and a few benign lesions,” according to the report. He is also up to date on his recommended vaccinations, the report said.
The report also noted that the president has scarring on his right ear from the assassination attempt against him, but that his hearing remains “normal.”
"President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and the Head of State," the report concluded.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

President Donald Trump remains in “excellent health” and is “fully fit” to be Commander-in-Chief, his physician said in a report released by the White House on Sunday, April 13.
Trump attended a medical appointment at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday—the first physical of his second presidential term. Trump consented to Dr. Sean Barbabella, the President's White House physician, releasing the results of his cognitive test and physical examination and tests.
Per the report, Trump’s height and weight are 75 inches and 224 pounds, respectively. Scans of several body systems—including the eyes, ears, neck, throat, and heart—came back normal.
The physician noted scarring on Trump’s right ear, obtained during the first assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July, 2024.
Dr. Barbabella also shared that the President had undergone a colonoscopy in the summer of 2024, during which it was revealed that he had a benign polyp and diverticulitis, which is inflammation in the pockets of the colon. A follow-up colonoscopy was recommended in three years time. Trump's medical history also includes a past COVID-19 infection.

Trump’s medications include prescriptions for cholesterol, a cardiac prevention medicine, and a cream to use as needed for “a skin condition.” The physician also notes that Trump, at some point, had bilateral cataract surgery.
Overall, Barbabella—a decorated Navy physician—says that Trump is in “robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function,” sharing that his “active lifestyle” including both golf and the general activeness required of his station helps his well-being
“President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Health of State,” Barbabella concludes.
The report also said that Trump scored 30 out of 30 on a Montreal Cognitive Assessment exam. Trump’s health and cognitive acuity had been central to calls for him to release his medical records.

Trump—who, at 78, is the oldest President to start a second term at the White House—notably faced many calls during his presidential campaign to release his medical records, especially after his then-opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris, released her own in October 2024.
“The American people deserve to have confidence in their elected officials’ mental and physical capacity to do the jobs they’ve elected them to do,” an open letter from over 200 doctors and health care providers in October read. “Trump ought to be going above and beyond to provide transparency on his physical health and mental acuity, given his advancing age.”
The results of this physical are the first full, robust report we’ve had on Trump’s health since the results from his 2018 physical were released. However, Trump has released a number of brief medical updates over the years, including a signed letter by his former physician Dr. Ronny Jackson—a Republican Representative from Texas—after the July 2024 assassination attempt, and an incredibly brief medical letter that featured in a Nov. 20, 2023, Truth Social post.

Trump 'fully fit for duty,' White House physician says

President Donald Trump, just two months shy of his 79th birthday, is in “excellent health” according to a memo released Sunday by the White House physician following a physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
The note, written by Dr. Sean P. Barbabella, is effusive in its praise of Trump, and appeared crafted to quell any concerns about the age or fitness of the oldest president ever to be sworn into office. It cites his participation in meetings, public events and “frequent victories in golf events” without mentioning that he prefers a diet heavy in fast food.
According to the memo, Trump stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 224 pounds, putting him just below the clinical threshold for obesity. His resting heart rate was 62 beats per minute, with a blood pressure reading of 128/74 mmHg — both within healthy ranges.
Trump scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a test often used to detect early signs of dementia. He also showed no signs of depression or anxiety, with scores in the normal range on standardized screenings.
“I don’t know what to tell you other than I got every answer right,” he said Saturday, bragging about his performance on the cognitive test to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday.
“Overall, I felt I was in very good shape,” Trump said. “A good heart, a good soul, a very good soul.” He did say that doctors gave him “a little bit” of advice on lifestyle changes to improve his health but he did not elaborate on what those are.
The memo did disclose “minor sun damage” on his skin, a benign colon polyp found during a July 2024 colonoscopy, and two types of medication he is taking for cholesterol control. It also noted scarring on his right ear from the gunshot wound he sustained during the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July, and previous cataract surgery.
Trump has previously offered only limited disclosures about his health. Before the assassination attempt and the newly released memo from Barbabella on Sunday, the last public update came in November 2023, when Dr. Bruce A. Aronwald issued a letter timed to coincide with former President Joe Biden’s 81st birthday, asserting that Trump was in “excellent” physical and mental health.
That letter was devoid of key medical details including his weight or blood pressure.

Trump Says the First Physical of His Second Term Went Well

At 78, Donald Trump is the oldest American President to take office. Now he’s undergoing the first physical of his second term. On Friday, he visited Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for a physical exam and a series of medical tests. He wrote on Truth Social on Monday that he was ready for his check-up, and that he has “never felt better, but nevertheless, these things must be done!”
It is unclear how much information the White House will release from Trump’s medical exams, but according to Trump, the physical went well and a report from his doctor is due to come out on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One after his medical appointment, Trump said: “Overall, I felt I was in very good shape. Good heart. A good soul. Very good soul. I took—I wanted to be a little different than Biden. I took a cognitive test. I don’t know what to tell you other than I got every answer right.”

It's been seven years since Trump has released extensive details about his physical health. During the 2024 campaign, Trump promised he would release his health information, but didn’t, departing from decades of tradition among presidential candidates. After a bullet tore through his ear-lobe during an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania in July, his former White House physician Ronny Jackson—now a congressman from Texas—released a letter describing the wound to his ear.
During the final two years of Trump’s first term, the White House dialed back how much information was shared publicly about Trump’s healthcare treatments. In October 2020, Trump was hospitalized at Walter Reed with a severe case of COVID-19, but the White House released relatively few details about his health after he recovered from the illness. In 2019, Trump’s medical checkup was kept off his public schedule until days later, and the White House released little information about the results.
The last time the public received detailed information about Trump’s health was in 2018. During a 2018 check-up at Walter Reed overseen by Jackson, Trump’s heart rate and blood work was normal. At the time, Trump was taking a statin to lower his cholesterol, aspirin, and Propecia to prevent hair loss, and he received vaccine shots to prevent pneumococcal pneumonia and hepatitis A and B.
At the time, Jackson stood on the podium at the White House briefing room and took questions from reporters about the exam. Jackson said Trump had “incredible genes” but he had advised Trump to exercise more and eat healthier food. “If he had a healthier diet over the last 20 years he might live to be 200 years old,” Jackson said.
Jackson wasn’t the first of Trump’s doctors to make hyperbolic statements about his health.
When Trump ran for President in 2015, his personal physician Harold Bornstein put out a famously glowing assessment. Bornstein wrote at the time that if Trump won the 2016 election he would be “the healthiest individual elected to the presidency”—a seemingly unscientific flourish in a medical report. Three years later, Bernstein told CNN that Trump had dictated the letter to him.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Friday that Trump’s physician will “provide an update” after the President’s physical “in the effort of transparency.” She said the Biden White House had a “lack of transparency” when it came to describing Biden’s “health and competence” and accused reporters of engaging in a “cover up.” President Biden had repeatedly mixed up the names of countries and lost his train of thought during public remarks and had cut back on press conferences and his interactions with the press.

Trump is in excellent health, high cholesterol controlled White House doctor says

U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida
By Andrew Goudsward
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -President Donald Trump remains in excellent health and his high cholesterol is "well controlled," White House physician U.S. Navy Captain Sean Barbella said in a report released on Sunday, two days after Trump underwent a routine physical.
The report is the most detailed information on the health of Trump, 78, since he returned to the White House in January as the oldest person to assume the U.S. presidency.
"President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State," Barbella wrote in his report.
The report noted that Trump has a history of "well-controlled" high cholesterol and is taking two medications to address it.
The report also noted that Trump has scarring on his right ear, the result of a gunshot wound he suffered when a would-be assassin fired at him during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last year.
The report said his hearing was normal.
Trump's campaign released a report after the assassination attempt last year concluding the injuries were superficial.
"It went, I think, well. ...Every test you can imagine, I was there for a long time, the yearly physical," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday after the exam. "I think I did well."
Barbella's report also references Trump's history with COVID-19. Trump was hospitalized during a serious bout with the virus in October 2020 during his run for reelection.
It noted that Trump takes two medications to control cholesterol -- rosuvastatin and ezetimibe, generic names of the branded drugs Crestor and Zetia -- and uses a mometasone cream to control rosacea, a condition that can cause redness in the face, as well as aspirin.
VACCINES UP TO DATE
It also mentions that Trump has received all recommended vaccines. Trump has in the past spread debunked claims about links between vaccines and autism often mentioned by his Health Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy has also cast doubt on the safety and efficacy of vaccines during a large, ongoing U.S. measles outbreak, contrary to established science, but has also said the vaccine is the best way to prevent the virus' spread.
Trump told reporters he took a cognitive test because he wanted to "be a little different" than his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, now 82.
Trump scored 30 out of 30 on the test, known as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, Barbella's report noted.
Trump sought to draw a contrast with Biden during his presidential campaign last year, portraying himself as younger and fitter. A disastrous debate performance from Biden last year raised questions about his acuity and ultimately forced him from the presidential race.
Biden's doctors repeatedly deemed him fit to serve, but several books published in recent months have raised questions about his mental fitness in his final months in the White House.
Barbella's report on Trump concludes that his "active lifestyle" contributes to his health, referencing daily meetings, press events and "frequent victories in golf events."

Donald Trump is in "excellent health," a White House doctor's assessment said on Sunday, after he underwent his first annual medical checkup since returning to the US presidency.
Republican Trump, 78, has repeatedly boasted about his own vigor since starting a second term, while mocking his 82-year-old Democratic predecessor Joe Biden as decrepit and mentally unfit for office.
"President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State," read a physician's letter shared by the White House.
It noted only a few abnormalities that included minor sun damage to Trump's skin, as well as scarring on his right ear from a gunshot wound after he was shot at in an assassination attempt last July.
The billionaire had told reporters Friday he felt "in very good shape" after his exam earlier that day at the Walter Reed military hospital in the Washington suburbs.
Trump has been accused of a lack of openness about his health despite huge interest in the wellbeing of America's commander-in-chief.
The White House said previously that presidential physician Sean Barbabella would give a readout of the physical and that "of course" it would provide the full report.
