I Shall Lead the Charge

A cycle of poems «I Trust Tempered Steel»

The wind howls a mournful song tonight
Stars are hidden, swallowed by the blight
Fear whispers secrets, chills me to the bone
But a fire's burning, I'm not alone

I shall lead the charge, a banner in my hand
Against the darkness, make a desperate stand
Though shadows gather, and the path is steep
I shall lead the charge, while others lie asleep

They say we're outnumbered, doomed to fall
That hope is fading, answering the pall
But in my heart, a different truth resides
A strength awakened, that the fear now hides

I shall lead the charge, a banner in my hand
Against the darkness, make a desperate stand
Though shadows gather, and the path is steep
I shall lead the charge, while others lie asleep

No promise of glory, no guarantee of win
Just the burning need to fight, from deep within
For those who falter, for those who cannot see
I'll be the beacon, guiding them to be free

I shall lead the charge, a banner in my hand
Against the darkness, make a desperate stand
Though shadows gather, and the path is steep
I shall lead the charge, while others lie asleep

Let the drums beat, let the horns resound
On hallowed ground, a future can be found
I shall lead the charge, until my dying breath
Toward the dawn, escaping certain death.
I shall lead the charge!
