Only the Wind Sings a Funeral Song

A cycle of poems «Warrior Won't Hurt a Child»

Dust devils dance on barren ground
Where whispers rise, but no one's found
A story ends, a life departs
Leaving echoes in broken hearts

Only the wind sings a funeral song
A mournful wail that lingers long
Across the plains, a lonely sound
Where hope lies buried, underground

The sun bleeds red, a final tear
For dreams that withered, year by year
No bells will toll, no choir will weep
Just silent stones where secrets sleep

Only the wind sings a funeral song
A mournful wail that lingers long
Across the plains, a lonely sound
Where hope lies buried, underground

Empty branches claw at the sky
Searching for answers, wondering why
The earth reclaims what once took flight
Lost in the darkness, swallowed by night

Only the wind sings a funeral song
A mournful wail that lingers long
Across the plains, a lonely sound
Where hope lies buried, underground

So listen close, and you might hear
The wind's lament, drawing ever near
A symphony of sorrow, soft and low
Only the wind, knows where to go.
Only the wind... sings a funeral song.
