Zara s Stripes the Great Escape
Oh, what happened?
My stripes are all gone.
My body is black like a mystery drawn.
She looked 'neath her bed,
With hope in her eyes,
But only dust bunnies
Met her lonely cries.
She looked in the wardrobe
With coats and hats.
But all that she spotted-
The comb for the cats.
She looked in the garden
Among flowers and trees.
But couldn’t find stripes,
With the help of all bees.
She searched by the river
Near the cool, splashing waves,
Where the water runs deep,
And the tall reed grass sways.
She ran to the field,
Under the sun's golden glow,
Through the tall and thick grass,
She moved to and fro.
But no stripes were seen,
Just the wind's gentle whisper,
The field is peaceful and calm,
And a soft sunset’s glister.
Zara went home, feeling sad
and slight sorrow,
Wondering if her stripes
Would return by tomorrow.
She went to the bathroom
But no hope was seen,
Her face in the mirror
Was tired and lean.
In the shower, she stood,
Let the water run down,
Let it all wash away
Her deep sorrow and frown.
After her shower,
With a towel wrapped tight,
Zebra stood by the mirror,
And saw a wondrous sight!!!
Her stripes were all there,
In the mirror, so clear,
She laughed at herself.
Feeling silly, my dear!
Verse 1
Zebra Zara woke one morn,
“Oh, what happened? My stripes are gone!”
My body’s black like midnight sky,
Where did all my stripes run by?
She looked under her little bed,
Dusty bunnies there instead.
“No stripes here,” she gave a sigh,
And a little tear fell from her eye.
Chorus
Where are my stripes, where could they be?
Did they run away from me?
Did the wind blow them far away
On a silly zebra day?
Where are my stripes, where could they hide?
Did they take a secret ride?
Oh please come back, don’t stay away,
I need my stripes today! ;
Verse 2
She looked in the wardrobe, coats and hats,
Only found a comb for cats.
In the garden, bees would fly,
But no stripes buzzing by.
By the river, cool and wide,
Reeds were dancing side to side.
Zara searched the grassy field,
But no stripes did it reveal.
Chorus
Where are my stripes, where could they be?
Did they run away from me?
Did the wind blow them far away
On a silly zebra day?
Where are my stripes, where could they hide?
Did they take a secret ride?
Oh please come back, don’t stay away,
I need my stripes today!
Bridge
Zara went home feeling low,
“Maybe they’ll come back, you know…”
In the shower she stood so still,
Water running down the hill.
Then she wiped the mirror bright —
And suddenly what a sight!
Final Chorus
There are my stripes! Now I can see!
They were always part of me!
I laughed so loud, oh what a day,
My silly stripes did not run away!
There are my stripes, black and white,
Shining in the bathroom light!
Zara laughed with pure delight —
“My stripes were with me all the night!” ;
