Only you

Only you were ever truly kind,
The only one who brought me peace of mind.
You never sought to break my soul in two,
Nor pressed your will—just let me be me, true.

You saw me whole, with flaws you didn’t fight,
You stayed beside me, made the darkness light.
And even now, you’re just the way you’ve been,
You broke the walls I’d built so deep within.

Each day you smile and softly say to me,
"There's nothing in yourself you need to change."
I look into your eyes and wonder how
Why I could never know you 'til this stage.

Our hearts were crushed, yet still we found the way,
Rebuilding shards that once were cast away.
Through lonely years, apart we faced the tide,
And now we anchor, safe, and side by side.

Within your hands, my heart will always rest,
And yours I’ll guard, my promise stands confessed.
A love without conditions, rules, or pain—
For this, the past was worth its weight in strain.
